Children’s Eye Exams

Your children are growing and changing every day – and so are their eyes! They may not complain about their vision because they may not know what the world clearly looks like. Dr. Tran understands that children need to be evaluated differently than adults and takes a careful approach in prescribing only what is necessary.

She has extensive experience seeing pediatric patients of all ages and has successfully treated eye conditions ranging from amblyopia (lazy eye) to conjunctivitis (pink eye). She believes in detecting and treating problems early before they can lead to permanent vision loss or eye damage in adulthood. Dr. Tran also specializes in the management of myopia (near-sightedness) and is happy to answer all of your questions pertaining to your children’s vision and eye health.

  • Your children may need to have their eyes dilated, especially if they are coming in for their first eye exam. This allows Dr. Tran to examine the health inside of the eyes and to determine whether or not they need lens correction. The dilation relaxes their focusing muscles of the eye, which will allow Dr. Tran to objectively obtain an accurate prescription.

  • The dilation will last between 4 hours to 24 hours. The common side effects include blurry vision and light sensitivity. Your children may return to school, but it is advisable to inform their teacher of these side effects.
